Rev. Daniel D. Mayes grew up in the small town of Sedgwick, KS which is just outside of Wichita. He spent three years at Wichita State University as a music education major, specializing in vocal music and saxophone. After realizing that music education was not his calling he transferred to Tabor College where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Christian Ministry in 2002. Later he attended Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, OK where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Master of Divinity degree in 2006. On June 4th, 2006 (which was also Pentecost Sunday) he was ordained into Christian Ministry by the congregation of First Christian Church of Tulsa and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma.
In October, 2007 Dan became the pastor of First Christian Church of Spencer, IA. Currently he is a Doctor of Ministry candidate at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. His coursework has been completed and he is now in the process of implementing and composing his thesis project which is tentatively titled “A Movement for Wholeness: Racial Inclusivity in Rural Ministry.” He expects to complete this in the Spring of 2013.
Dan and his beautiful wife, Michele, met and married in Wichita, KS. Together they have four children and one dog, a Pekingese named “Pepper.” Dan is active in the Algona Cornbelt Chorus and the Spencer Community Theatre. Although he has been out of his home state for nearly a decade he still holds the title of #1 Fan of the Kansas Jayhawks. Click here to visit Dan’s blog.
